Haiku Canada Conference Agenda 2013

The conference will take place in the Blue Room and the Alberta Room in the Hotel Alma on the campus of the University of Calgary

Friday May 17, 2013

3:00pm Set up for various events will commence.
Set up Blue Room for: Books for Sale and Silent Auction
Set up Alberta Room for: Workshops, Presentations, (Banquet Area) etc.
Set up Registration Table: Outside Alberta Room
Conference participants are invited to bring books/artworks to sell. Participants are responsible for their own "book room information" cost of books, money collection. If anyone has materials for the silent auction table, there will be paper for descriptions, etc in your folder. Please fill out. Silent auctions are fund raisers for Haiku Canada. Clean your closets!
4:00pm Conference registration and folder pickup: outside the Alberta Room. Place your haiku for the "anonymous workshop" in the HOWDY HAIKU BOX by Registration.
5:00pm Holographic Anthology set up Marco Fraticelli in the the Alberta Room.
6:00–7:30pm Dinner The Alma is now open for breakfast, lunch and dinner until 9:00pm There is also the Food Court. Off campus is The Keg and McGuire’s Beanery. Just a "HEAD’S UP": There is an ‘ANIME’ Conference on campus this weekend also, so there could be quite a few people in the food venues.
Following dinner Co-Hosts Terry Ann Carter and DeVar Dahl, welcome participants
7:30pm Launch of the Conference Anthology. Mike Montreuil and Luce Pelletier editors.
8:00pm Presentation and Writing workshop: "One for Sorrow, Two for Joy: Magpies in Haiku" by members of the Magpie Haiku and Tanka poets Patricia Benedict, Joanne Morcom, Lucille Raizada. A brief history of our collective will be touched upon, including the rationale for the name. The Magpie’s place in folklore and legend will also be discussed. A reading of magpie haiku from our two anthologies: A Piece of Eggshell and Weathered Wings to follow. The presentation will conclude with a mini-workshop, where participants will be invited to write and share their own magpie haiku.

9:30–10:30am Anonymous workshop with Nick Avis and Terry Ann Carter.
10:30am Morning break and discussion.
11:00am-12:00pm Zendoodle: Exploration in Haiku Discovery - DeVar Dahl.
12:00-1:30pm Lunch
2:00-3:00pm Haiku Mythology - Nick Avis.
3:00-3:30pm Behold the Fold: Flutter Books with Terry Ann Carter (papers will be provided). Bring copies of six to eight poems, either your own or the poems of someone you admire, plus scissors and glue.
3:30 -5:30pm Ginko Walk
6:00pm Pre-dinner reception: alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
6:30pm Dinner (Buffet style) in Alberta Room
7:30pm Keynote speaker: Marco Fraticelli a reading from "The Celeste Poems".
  Continued late night renku party.

11:00am Completion of conference holographic anthology - Marco Fraticelli
11:30am Completion of silent auction. Don’t forget your bits and pieces. Don’t forget your books!
  Announcement of the Ginko Walk Haiku winners.
  Announcement of the Betty Drevniok and the Jocelyn Villeneuve Contest winners.
  Suggestions for location and hosting of next year’s Conference would be appreciated.
Wind-up hugs, exchange of email addresses etc., picking an eatery and farewell
